USDA February Outlook forum

moneycornNext week the USDA will hold its’ annual February Outlook Form in Arlington, VA (February 26 & 27). I won’t be attending – the prospect of sitting through two days worth of supply and demand talks is less than exciting – but I will pay close attention. I will pay attention because USDA will release its first look at grain supply and demand for the 2009/2010 crop year. With this first look, they will reveal their guestimates for planted acres in 2009.

USDA releases their first official estimate of the coming crop year in the May WASDE report, and these estimates will incorporate information gathered in the March Planting Intentions report. But keep an eye on what they say next week – it will set off an important debate over a simple question: How many acres of corn will be planted in 2009?
